Garter snake stuck in pole
Nathaniel was at work one afternoon when he and his coworkers saw something protruding from one of the many holes along the metal pole of a sign. Confused as to what it was, they approached and saw a little garter snake trying to free himself!
The kind workers tried to coax him out but soon realized the poor reptile was very stuck. He had been wriggling in distress for a while, bruising his body and damaging his scales in the process. Knowing the snake needed help, Nathaniel removed the pole from its base, and headed straight to TWC.

How horrific. I have had such an experience with a poor baby raccoon that unfortunately did not end up making it, and I abhor these traps. Just plain cruel for ANY creature. I appreciate you sharing this story and sharing that the kindest thing was to euthanize it - I completely agree. The aim is to help heal and return animals to nature but if they are incapable of surviving in the wild, it is best to end their misery. Painful and sad but ultimately most humane. I am so glad to hear the other raccoon was able to recover. I think showing the reality of creatures that don't make it is important, although I am sure these stories aren't as popular. I also am guessing that more creatures don't make it, that are brought in, than the success stories. It's great that charges were laid against the person laying the trap... absolutely they should be the one to pay for the medical care. Thank you TWC! You guys really are the best!

Bless your hearts! Thank you to TWC and the kind construction workers who took the time to unscrew the base of the pole and bring it in to TWC. How horrid for the poor snake, being trapped and swollen and trying to squeeze out. A massive thank you to the wonderful medical team who cared for this little fella and allowed him to return back to nature! So many people are either afraid of snakes or don't appreciate them as much as other wildlife, but they are critical parts of our ecosystem and just as precious and important as any other creature we share this city with. THANK YOU!!!

I found a huge snapper dead on my lake with an arrow sticking out of it's neck Not unlike the one in this video. That predator is still out there. Probably still hurting animals. I'm so glad they could help the turtle in this video. I make sure to provide an open sandy spot in my yard for the snappers that come up to lay their eggs every year. I wish I could do more.

There are people who will take care of such animals as long as government does not take any actions… there are many humans who are disabled and have physically challenged and also there are druggies in the society who can live in this society .. but a disabled animal can’t live and needs to be euthanized and that too that animal was disabled by a human.. what a logic and hypocrisy… I don’t understand if humans do have any sense or do they even make sense with decisions … sad to hear that healthy baby was supposed to be euthanized

I for one, can't watch! I know what I would see and would not be able to un see and I am aware of how horrible these traps are and that they should be illegal. It is devastating to me, a human being set this out to trap an innocent animal, knowing that animal would suffer for a very long time. Have to wonder, what kind of human is that. I am sure Lori was shocked and traumatized but so grateful she just acted and acted fast on behalf of this little racoon ❤ TWC - don't know how you do it but we are so fortunate you're there for our wildlife.

What a tragic story. I'm so glad charges were put against this individual, but why on earth aren't these devices banned in Canada? I can't think of any legitimate reason for them that wouldn't cause cruelty to animals, as defined by the law. It makes no sense. So sad that it was fastened to a tree outside, where the raccoon was just minding its own business doing raccoon-things like climbing trees.
